On September 22, 2004 Jerusalm Post conducted a survey among Jewish voters and reported, "sixty-nine percent of American Jews would vote for US Senator John Kerry if the election was held today, compared with 24 percent who said they would vote for President George W. Bush according to a new poll released by the American Jewish Committee on Wednesday. While Bush's percentage represents a five-point gain over the 19 percent he received in 2000 according to exit polling, it is less than some of the President's supporters had predicted he would receive as a result of his support for Israel. Some speculated Jewish support would rise to 35 or 40 percent. It was also a drop from a previous AJC poll in December, which found the President winning 31 percent of the Jewish vote compared to about 59 percent for Kerry, who had not yet secured the nomination at that time."
