In an effort to educate her students about the religions of the world, Betty McCollum rounded them up in a van and drove from Magnolia, Ark., to Shreveport.
McCollum, an instructor at Southern Arkansas University, brought 17 students to the annual World Religion Day for Shreveport/Bossier City on Sunday.
The field trip had the desired effect.
"It brought home what I was trying to teach students and to provoke discussion," she said.
The celebration, which took place at the Highland Center on Olive Street, is an opportunity for people to learn about other religions, said SuZanne Wright, who is part of the committee that organized the event.
