Earlier this year, Trent Emory visited a handful of local houses of worship on a field trip organized by his religion class at Rock Valley College. The experience so intrigued him that when a similar opportunity presented itself Sunday he didn’t hesitate to sign up.
Emory joined about 50 other participants on the annual Open Houses of Worship Tour, organized by the Rockford Interfaith Council. For the tour’s 12th year, organizers selected Heartland Community Church, Lao Buddhist Temple and the Muslim Association of Greater Rockford, all located in Rockford, as sites.
