On June 12, 2003 SMART reported that "the Palatine Village Council [IL] recently approved the appointment of Mohinderjit Singh Saini to the Palatine Zoning Board of Appeals... Mayor Rita Mullins proposed Saini's name proclaiming that he was an extremely qualified candidate because of his education, professional background, past experience and community service record in Palatine... The Zoning Board of Appeals is an advisory body to the Village Council that conducts public hearings and makes decision on special uses of various village properties... Saini, a post graduate in civil engineering from the University of Illinois - Chicago, is a construction projects engineer for Teng and Associates Inc. He was the chairman of the Ethnic and Cultural Diversity Committee of Vision in Progress, a Palatine-Inverness community group. He served on the committee to organize Palatine's 125th year celebration in 1991."
