On February 2, 2004 The Syndey Morning Herald ran an article on the consecration of a Hindu temple: "In a ceremony almost as colourful as its past, thousands of Hindu devotees celebrated the consecration of the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Helensburgh in a spectacle of singing, chanting and flower petals yesterday. Around 5000 Hindus, from throughout Australia and across the world, participated in the ceremony to bless the newly-built rajagopurams, or towers, that complete the temple. The complex is the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere. Nat Iyer, a founding member of the Sri Venkateswara Temple Association, said the consecration of the three towers - which symbolise the feet of the Hindu lords - allows devotees to pray from outside the complex. Holy water was poured on the 30-metre towers from a cherry picker to bless the site and the worshippers. Many of the followers had waited 25 years for the complex to be completed."
