On January 23, 2003 Daily News reported that "the recent rash of anti-Semitic hate crimes in southern Brooklyn has spurred local leaders to hold two separate public forums tonight in Sheepshead Bay... U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn, Queens) and state Sen. Martin Golden (R-Bay Ridge) said the meetings should help calm the fears of the community and ease tensions that have been building for weeks... City Council members, local police officials and clergymen are among those invited to both events."
