Diamond Baron in Mumbai Renounces Wealth to Become Jain Monk

On November 4, 2005 The Tribune reported, "Hundreds of followers of Jainism were emotionally touched during the preaching session of Jain muni Gyanchand, when a Mumbai-based diamond baron announced his decision to take renunciation here on Wednesday. The multi-millionaire businessman, Mr Uttam Chand Kheevamsara, said he had enough of material prosperity and worldly pleasures and had therefore decided to get initiated as a monk and take ‘diksha’ at a formal function to be held on April 30 next year. Mr Kheevamsara, who hails from Beawer in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, handed over a letter to muni Gyanchand conveying the collective consent of his family members to his decision on ‘sanyas.'"
