On December 25, 2003 The New Straits Times reported, "True to the tradition of Malaysians who hold open house during festivals, the Yuletide cheer was felt not only by Christians of all denominations, but also others in our multi-ethnic society. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took time off to join the open house organised by the Christian Federation of Malaysia at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brickfields. Abdullah said he was there not just as the Prime Minister but also as a fellow Malaysian of the Islamic faith. 'The great figure whose birth you celebrate today is also a figure we Muslims honour very highly,' he said...The multi-ethnicity and harmony was clearly displayed by the presence of leaders of other faiths such as Malaysia Hindu Sangam president Datuk A. Vaithilingam and representatives of the Sikh and Buddhist communities."
