On March 20, 2004 The North County Times reported, "According to Buddhist teachings, speaking ill of one's neighbors can attract bad karma. But a group of Bonsall residents opposed to a proposed Buddhist temple at 6326 Camino Del Rey are nonetheless speaking out against having such a facility in their neighborhood. The residents say a large temple and meditation center on the property is out of character for the neighborhood and should be located in a more isolated area with better access. A single-family home on the scenic hillside property now is used as a monasterylike retreat by a small group of Buddhists. The 10-acre property, called Dai Dang, is on the north side of the rural road and overlooks San Luis Rey Downs thoroughbred horse training grounds. If the larger facility is built, the complex will house monks and visiting students for days or weeks at a time, according to project consultant Chris Brown, spokesman for the property owners."
