History: The Boston Buddha Vararam Temple was established on February 2, 1998 with the support of many Thai people in the Boston area and the direction of Phrakhra Kittivorakhun, a well-known leader in the Dhammayut order. 
Its first location was at 523 Pleasant Street, a three story home on a half-acre of land in residential Malden, Massachusetts. On May 3, 1998, the temple was established as a non-profit organization with a board of directors. The current location, a 2.5 acre lot at 125 North Street in Bedford, was acquired on September 15, 1999. There are three monks in residence.
Activities and Schedule: On a daily basis, there are usually a few to a dozen people attending services. Resident monks proffer chanting and meditation twice a day, in the mornings and evenings. Monks are available throughout the day to receive laity as well. On Sundays, the monks participate in the alms walk in the front of the temple. Laity come and offer food and supplies to the monks during this time. Classes for English speakers are offered for adults. Children's classes are offered at the same time every other week. Dancing classes for girls and Muay self-defense classes for boys are also offered for the youth in the temple. There are small fees for these classes. Throughout the year, the temple hosts seven large events that attract 200 to 300 people. All events are open to the public.
