Tiep Hien Order
The Tiep Hien Order was founded by Thich Nhat Hanh and others in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. This Order represents the 42nd generation of the Linji (Rinzai) school of Zen. As a form of “engaged Buddhism,” it emphasizes the application of Buddhist teachings and compassion to face the challenges and injustices of daily life. According to Thich Nhat Hanh, Tiep means “to be in touch,” especially with one’s true mind through meditation, and Hien means “the present time.” Together, the terms emphasize what he calls the “interbeing” of all life.
