Mission and Community: Father Bill’s Place (FBP), formerly Quincy Interfaith Sheltering Coalition, is a 24-hour, full service, interfaith program for homeless men and women. FPB seeks to serve homeless people of the South Shore area of Massachusetts and surrounding Boston localities by providing shelter and assistance to each person to achieve his/her potential in individual and community functioning. It also provides advocacy for the homeless and the issues that affect their lives. The shelter can house 90 men and 25 women, or 115 adults in all. Its constituents are individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs including those with severe mental illness, head injuries, physically disabled individuals, individuals who chronically abuse substances, and persons living with HIV/AIDS. Sub-populations also include veterans and youth ages 18 - 24 years.
Services: Father Bill’s Place offers shelter and supplementary services such as meals, showers, access to clothes, and medicine. Most importantly, trained counselors provide case management, linking clients to the appropriate social services. The program has also been responsible for the creation of 205 units of Supportive Housing for formerly homeless individuals and families. Other services include: housing searches, nursing services, outreach programs for the homeless mentally ill, on-site substance abuse counseling and a "wet shelter" (a shelter that does not require its guests to give up alcohol), veterans’ services, outreach to head-injured clients and voice mail for housing and job searches. In addition to shelter services, Father Bills & MainSpring also offers a host of other community-based programs and services to its clients.
