On eve of early voting, interfaith candlelight rally draws crowd in Milwaukee

Not with so much on the line in the upcoming election.

The executive director of Souls to the Polls has been preaching the gospel of the ballot box for weeks now and continued to do so Monday night at an interfaith candlelight rally outside Holy Redeemer Church in Milwaukee on the eve of Wisconsin's start to early voting.

Interfaith demonstrations across California demand release of incarcerated people amid COVID-19

Faith leaders and activists demonstrated outside prisons and immigration detention centers across California on Tuesday, calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to do more to release incarcerated and detained people who they say are in danger amid COVID-19 outbreaks.

Organizers held and placed banners denouncing Newsom at freeway overpasses and outside prisons. Activists posted banners outside prisons that read “Gavin Newsom COVID-19 Death Camp” and “Department of Infections and Debilitation.”

Massachusetts is a hotspot for houses of worship turning to solar power, trailing only behind California

Massachusetts is known for its historic buildings and churches but some of these houses of worship are getting a very modern update as they turn to solar power.

In 2019, at least 64 houses of worship in the commonwealth had solar installations in operation, according to a report from Interfaith Power and Light. The numbers were up 14% from 2017 and only trailed behind California, which had 190 congregations, according to the...

The religious divide: Incidents of anti-Semitism spotlight divisions in Routt County, one of nation’s least religious counties

A few years ago, Sam Ogden heard that someone carved a swastika into a Steamboat Springs High School student’s car along with other Nazi-inspired vandalism. The incidents made the local and national news. He said a few Steamboat friends acted shocked.

They told Ogden, “’This isn’t the Steamboat I know. … This isn’t the Steamboat I graduated from,’” he said.

Buddhists in Hawai‘i Lead Bell-ringing for International Day of Peace

Buddhists from the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai‘i led a virtual global bell-ringing yesterday in celebration of Peace Day, a state holiday in Hawai‘i that coincides each year with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Described as the first-ever International “Ring Your Bell for Peace” event, the occasion was live-streamed on the KTUH Honolulu Facebook page.
