On September 27, 2003 The Plain Dealer reported that "to...members of the Islamic Center of Cleveland's Women's Committee, wearing the hijab has become more than a symbol of religious conviction. It's a feminist statement - indicative of a kind of feminism that is quite different from the traditional women's lib movement with which many Americans are familiar. 'When people ask questions about women in Islam, they say, "You sound like a feminist,"' explains Suna Aziz, committee member and administrative assistant for the center. 'And I tell them, "I am a feminist, but not in the way you think of feminism."'" Members say they are educating girls to think for themselves and to use Islam as a means of addressing other injustices in society.
