On October 1, 2005 The News Journal reported on a project of the Wilmington Interfaith Initiative in Wilmington, Delaware in response to high crime rates. "Young, streetwise 'collaborators' who will counsel students and inmates about [how] to re-enter the city. 'Trackers' who will respond to shooting scenes to speak with grieving family and traumatized witnesses. Trained 'ambassadors' who will intervene with gun-toting drug dealers on street corners. Those are parts of a plan being developed by the Wilmington Interfaith Initiative, a group of religious leaders. The group is an extension of the Coalition to Build a Safer Community, which has been meeting since the end of last year, when almost 100 people were shot in the city. The group began after several people were shot in one week. The plan is in its early stages. The Rev. Tyrone Johnson of Churches Take a Corner said he hopes that nearly every church in the city will help in some way. Johnson said he hopes the group's plan will be finalized by the end of the year."
