On March 9, 2004 Sikhnet reported, "On Tuesday, March 9th, the Washington State Legislature passed a special resolution to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the installation of the Guru Granth Sahib. The Washington State Senate held a special session during which Democratic Senator Margarita Prentice from District 11 spoke about the Sikh community, their history and contributions to American life. The entire Senate then stood and recognized a number of members from the Sikh community who have contributed to the Washington State community. The Sikh Coalition worked with the Washington Sikh community in getting this resolution passed and is also working to have similar resolutions adopted in other states."
