On February 10, 2005 The Tampa Tribune reported, "a visiting lama will conduct a New Year's ceremony for local Tibetan Buddhists on Sunday. Drupon Thinley Ningpo, who is associated with the Tibetan Meditation Center in Frederick, Md., will officiate at a smoke ceremony to make offerings and request removal of obstacles for the coming year. A drupon is a 'retreat master' in Tibetan Buddhism. The smoke ceremony must be done within the first 15 days of the new year, which began Feb. 9."
