On August 21, 2005 Arrivenet reported, "Canadian Jewish Congress, Quebec Region (CJC, QR) was immediately in contact with the Belz community of Val Morin following a report that vandals had broken in to the summer camp's synagogue overnight Thursday and thrown over 300 sacred texts in the toilets and in the nearby lake. 'To take sacred texts and treat them with such contempt is truly a deplorable act,' declared CJC, QR Officer Adam Atlas. 'To do this in a place where children gather to study and spend their summer days is even more shameful.' 'It is a sad day for all Quebecers when we witness, in a province so well known for its commitment to tolerance and vigilance in the fight against all forms of racism, that we see religious texts being treated with such contempt,' noted CJC, QR President Jeffrey K. Boro."
