On June 17, 2005 the Houston Chronicle reported, "Houston attorney Bruce N. Shortt is on a mission to convince Christian parents to pull their children from public schools and educate them at home or in Christian classrooms. Shortt is among a small but growing number of evangelicals who regard public schools as antagonistic toward religion and incapable of educating. They dismiss any ideas of educational reform and emphasize a religious obligation on the part of parents to provide moral and academic training for their children... Shortt's mission is taking him to Nashville, Tenn., next week for the annual Southern Baptist Convention for a second attempt to garner support for student withdrawal from public schools."
