On December 31, 2002 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that "a Marietta mosque that was denied permission to build a minaret plans to hold open houses in an effort to strengthen ties with neighbors before reapplying... Masjid Al-Hedaya director Amjad Taufique said Monday that the mosque will not sue the Marietta Board of Zoning Appeals over its Dec. 16 rejection of an application to build a 70-foot tower at the mosque... Members of the mosque will invite area residents to a series of informational open houses to explain the group's plans and activities at the mosque, Taufique said."
