On February 25, 2005 the Detroit Free Press reported, "students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn are pressing the Board of Regents to end university investments in companies that the students assert are involved in the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory. In an echo of the 1970s, when students and faculty urged the university to divest in companies operating in South Africa, the Student Senate voted unanimously Tuesday to demand the divestment. The senate also asked the regents to invoke a portion of school bylaws that provides for appointing a committee to review investments if issues arise that 'involve serious moral or ethical questions.'"
