As the sun set Wednesday night and the call to prayer in Arabic rang out from the public address system at the Al-Salam Mosque, Tulsa Muslims quickly handed out bottles of water and dishes of dates to break that day's Ramadan fast before going into evening prayers.
It is a ritual repeated at the mosque every night during the lunar month of Ramadan - Aug. 11 to Sept. 10 - but this time the public was invited to watch.
The Islamic Society of Tulsa hosted the annual "Look-in on Ramadan" open house as a way to communicate their faith to their non-Muslim neighbors. The Oklahoma Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations was a co-sponsor.
