On May 15, 2003 the Detroit Free Press reported that "Michigan's Arab Americans have soured in their support for President George W. Bush, despite his triumph in Iraq... Only 34 percent have a favorable view of Bush's job performance, a new poll shows. Forty-seven percent said they voted for Bush in 2000; 17 percent said they voted for Democrat Al Gore, according to the EPIC/MRA poll of 500 Arab-Americans, conducted May 8 to 13 mainly in the metro Detroit area... Among all U.S. states, Michigan has the highest percentage of residents who claim Arab ancestry. Most are in metro Detroit... Those critical of Bush say they are unhappy with his economic and foreign policy decisions. More than half of those polled said they disagree with U.S. policies toward Arab countries."
