On October 7, 2003 SeaCoastonline described the volunteer efforts by youth from the local Bahai community who are working in the Kittery Youth Connection after-school program. The Bahai religion focuses on themes of spiritual transformation, race unity, the equality of women and men, and community service. According to Pricilla Guy, the Connection's chairwoman, "The kids go to them like glue. There is just a serenity feeling inside of these kids that you feel too when you’re around them."
