On an elaborately decorated stage outside Cannon Chapel on Saturday, College sophomore Vishal Patel and College freshman Anu Anand got married. Well, not really.

The Hindu priest who officiated emphasized that the wedding wasn't official, but the audience of about 75 people at the Hindu mock wedding could not have been faulted for believing that they were seeing the real thing.

At the request of the Inter-Religious Council, the Hindu Students Council sponsored a mock wedding to educate the campus about Hindu ceremonies and traditions. Hillel also held a mock Jewish wedding last year.

To follow tradition, the planning committee hired a wedding planner who specializes in Hindu ceremonies.

The event began with a baraat, in which Patel rode a white horse from Asbury Circle to Cannon Chapel. He was accompanied in a procession including the dance group Karma, a drummer and guests.
