On January 1, 2005 The State Journal-Register reported, "As the death toll climbed and rescuers worked to help the stunned tsunami survivors, 10-year-old Annisa Kumerow was working Thursday on a poster in her Rochester living room. The poster was one of several that will be displayed today at the Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, 3000 Stanton St., for a special fund-raising effort among the society's members. The collection was the idea of Annisa's mother, Fauziah Kumerow, but Annisa was more than willing to help... Fauziah, a native of Malaysia, moved to the United States 20 years ago. Her family still lives in Malaysia, and luckily, survived the catastrophe."
