On May 7, 2004 News OK reported, "An atheist and a rabbi stood by Muslim and Christian ministers for a diverse service on the south steps of the state Capitol on Thursday, serving as symbolic reminders that the National Day of Prayer in Oklahoma had undergone a transformation. Meanwhile, a Christian-based prayer service drew a crowd that swelled to more than 500 people in the Capitol’s second-floor rotunda. Two services, one building — Oklahomans celebrated their right of freedom of religion as never before. Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin addressed the issue of two National Day of Prayer events early on during her remarks to those gathered for the indoor prayer service. Fallin said she knew some people were disappointed the Christian-based service was not held on the Capitol’s south steps as in years past.... Typically, the Capitol prayer service — coordinated by the day of prayer Oklahoma Task Force — is held on the south steps. But the Stop Theocracy in Oklahoma Policy group gained a permit to hold its event at that location. The 'Interfaith Day of Prayer and Reflection' was sponsored by the Stop Theocracy group, Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists and the Oklahoma Chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State."
