A passport is more than a key to the world — it is an expression of national identity, say members of the Six Nations Confederacy who have been using their own special travel document for years.

That is why members of the Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team are missing out on competing in the world championships this week, stranded at a New York City airport because the British government has refused to recognize the low-tech passport issued by the Six Nations Confederacy, even after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton intervened in the case.
