The growing Sikh population in Bayan Baru plans to seek the federal government’s intervention to get its rightful place of worship in the area.
Members of the Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru said a plot earmarked by the government for Sikhs at the non-Islamic religious and cultural enclave near the Snake Temple had been converted into a car park and a children’s playground.
“We need a gurdwara in Bayan Baru. There are almost 300 Sikh families in the area and the number is expected to increase,” Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru secretary Manjeet Singh said.
