At least a thousand Sikhs paraded through the streets of Windsor Sunday to celebrate the birth of the religion.
Dressed in yellow, orange and blue--colours that represent happiness --Sikhs from Windsor, Toronto and London gathered at Riverfront Festival Plaza to nibble and drink Indian delicacies.
"I'm really excited about this event, so many people have showed up," said Seikhdev Kooner, secretary of the Sikh Cultural Society of Metropolitan Windsor. "Mostly this is a religious function, but our culture comes in too."
The celebration is called Nagar Kirtan, which consists of a feast and then a parade. It's honoured on the first Sunday in May every year in Windsor, while celebrations take place in other cities on different weekends.
The colourful crowd walked east down Riverside Drive to Walkerville to expose the community to Sikh culture.
