A south-side church will switch from a Latino community church to a temple where Sikhs will worship.

Sikhs from around the area have bought the former Primera Inglesia Luterana church at 2408 Durand Ave. and plan to reopen it as a Sikh temple sometime early next year.

The nearest Sikh temples are in Oak Creek and Brookfield, said Ricky Singh, son of Ranbir Singh, both of Wauwatosa. Ricky said his father is essentially president of the committee of about two dozen people who are working together to open the temple.
