On May 10, 2004 The Grand Rapids Press reported, "Two Indian religious groups have announced plans to build temples in Cascade Township. West Michigan Hindu Temple closed a deal on 5.7 acres on Whitneyville Road south of 48th Street SE, though the group still is raising the estimated $600,000 to $800,000 it will need to construct a planned 8,000-square-foot temple and cultural center. And the Sikh Society of Western Michigan already has applied to Cascade Township for a permit to build its planned 14,000-square-foot gurdwara, or temple, on 7.8 acres on the northeast corner of Quiggle Avenue and Cascade Road SE."
