On December 18, 2001, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported "Hate-crime victim is slowly getting her life back on the road." The article noted, "It's been three months since Swaran Kaur Bhullar, a Sikh, was stabbed while sitting in her car at an intersection on Miramar Road, apparently by someone who mistook her for an Arab or Muslim. 'I'm trying to get back to a normal routine, but I still feel like a prisoner,' Bhullar said yesterday after authorities announced a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of those responsible for the attack." The article continued, "Now, she tells her family and others who are darker skinned to be wary and to lock their doors and windows. 'I have just started going outside again and back to work,' Bhullar said. 'For a while, I was afraid to even leave my home.'"
