A new landmark will be appearing soon on Sheffield's horizon - a beautiful Sikh temple.

The new state-of-the-art temple is being built in Warren Street, Attercliffe, to accommodate South Yorkshire's growing Sikh population.

Since 1978 the Sikh community in South Yorkshire and Chesterfield has worshipped at a temple on Ellesmere Road, Burngreave.

But the temple is struggling to accommodate the 200 Sikh families who use it to worship and socialise.

It was the only place where births, weddings, funerals and special occasions could take place but it was so small, visitors often had to stand outside.

Now the new temple will give the community a second place to worship.
