Opponents of a proposed Sikh temple in south Guelph met in private Thursday night to plan strategy, but whether they pushed their agenda forward remains in question.

Many of the two dozen people who met at the Puslinch Community Centre refused to speak publicly after the meeting, which was closed to the media. They included prominent opponent Glenn Carducci, who has an anti-temple website.

Temple opponents who did comment raised issues that are already well known.

“Noise, traffic, public safety,” said Yufei Jiln, who lives in the Westminster Woods subdivision near the Clair Road site of the planned domed temple, with its 18,000-square-foot footprint, capacity for 400 worshippers and 169 parking spaces. He added the project, which requires rezoning, doesn’t fit in with the Western architecture of the neighbourhood.
