On April 24, 2005 the Sikh News Network reported, "after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, America is said to have united more than ever. But this thought excludes the crude reality that the Rutgers Sikh Club is desperately trying to escape - that of stereotypes. Club President Divnain Malik said RU Sikh was established more than 10 years ago to aid the Sikh population at the University as well as to generate awareness within the student body. 'We've been around for a little bit. It's to form a base for people of the Sikh religion to come together,' Malik said. 'Hanging out with everyone is cool, but you also need a sense of home and I think that the reason that they set this organization up is to have that sense and just to become a community within a bigger community.' In addition, Malik said the organization - which consists of approximately 30 active members and 80 general members - has helped him personally because he has gotten a chance to spend time with friends as well as help other people in need."
