On August 9, 2006 The Brampton News reported, "On Saturday, August 5, 2006 the Ontario Khalsa Darbar, also known as the Dixie Gurdwara, located in Mississauga, held a ceremony to raise a 135-foot freestanding hydraulic pole bearing the Sikh flag (Nishan Sahib). 'Our dream since 1995 has come true,' said S. Jasjit Singh Bhullar, President of the Dixie Gurdwara. Outside every Gurdwara stands a Nishan Sahib. It is the holy flag which can be seen either near the entrance or on the top of every Gurdwara. Great respect is shown to the flag as it is a symbol of all that the Sikhs believe. It also is a welcome banner for visitors. Volunteers and members of the congregation gathered by the hundreds in prayer to celebrate this day. A procession was organized which was led by the Panj Pyaras (Five Beloved Ones) and Bhai Bhalinder Singh, the head priest of the Dixie Gurdwara. The Dixie Gurdwara is a fairly large complex compared to most other Gurdwaras across Canada. It is on the corner of Derry Road and Dixie Road in Mississagua. It contains a sports ground behind the Gurdwara for playing Kabadi."
