Sikh Awareness Day was celebrated on May 19 to spread awareness about various aspects of Sikh religion among the students. Events including self-defense performances, cultural musical performances and turban-tying competition were part of the event.
According to an organizer of the event and a first-year biochemistry student, Naina Singh, the event aims to educate student fraternity about Sikhism.
Speaking on the occasion, Onkar Dhindsa, one of the event organizer and a first-year psychology student stated that the origin of Sikhism dates back to 1400s in Punjab, India. He went on to add saying Sikhism, which instills three principles of remembering God, sharing with the needy and living a righteous life, is based on the teachings of 10 Sikh gurus.
"Sikhism isn't just a religion, it's a way of life. It teaches acceptance of diversity and equality of all living creatures," Dhindsa reiterated.
