On December 23, 2003 the San Antonio Express- News reported, "More than 50 Catholics and Jews lifted a chorus of voices in a Hebrew blessing just before Catholic leaders and rabbis from San Antonio lit a Hanukkah menorah in the San Fernando Cathedral Centre reception hall Monday. The second year of the joint celebration at San Fernando continues the precedent set when Pope John Paul II formally recognized the Jewish holiday Dec. 9, 2001, by inviting San Antonian Bennett Feinsilber and friend Jerzy Kluger to light the traditional menorah in the Vatican...The ceremony marks San Antonio, known for its interfaith celebrations, as a very special city, Mayor Ed Garza said."
