On May 5, 2004 The Californian reported, "When Japanese immigrants came to Salinas more than 80 years ago to set up farms and businesses, they also founded a Buddhist temple... The temple, founded in 1924, celebrated its 80th anniversary March 14 with a banquet, parade and traditional service. To mark the occasion, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution honoring the temple for its contributions to the community. Supervisor Lou Calcagno, who sponsored the resolution, said Friday descendants of the temple's founders and the temple have been pillars of the community."
