The River Mersey and a ferry boat has been the focal point of a special Hindu religious ceremony.
Clay figures representing the Hindu Lord Ganesha, the elephant deity riding a mouse, were submerged in the river from a ferry boat on Tuesday.
The River Mersey is worshipped by British Hindus as the Holy River Ganges, a spokesman for the Indo-British Association said.
A larger event is being planned for the city's Capital of Culture year in 2008.
