ELK GROVE, Calif. — Though the local election results have taken nearly a week to be announced, candidate Bobbie Singh-Allen will be the next mayor of Elk Grove and the first directly elected Sikh woman mayor in the United States.
Current Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly reportedly called Singh-Allen around noon on Monday to concede the election. Results still need to be certified, but Mayor-elect Singh-Allen is declaring victory.

“The biggest summation of Sikhism is brotherhood and to love everyone equally,” she said.
