Representatives of the different religions in Seychelles have met to talk about how they will work together to fight drug abuse.

They held a meeting on Friday at Care House in Victoria, the headquarters of the Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education against substance abuse.

Care had invited leaders of all the different faiths in Seychelles, including Baha’is and Muslims, to discuss a problem they say affects them all.

This was the first in a series of meetings to set up concrete work plans and discuss their views of substance abuse.

Care director Noella Gonthier says the fruit of their efforts will be seen in about a year’s time after the different faiths have done the necessary ground work to curb abuse locally.

She says Care decided to hold the meetings as it has seen that spiritually-based rehabilitation programmes are the most successful everywhere in the world.
