On October 30, 1999, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch published an article on the Gateway Day School, a Reform Jewish school that plans to open in August 2000 in St. Louis, MO. The school, which has yet to find an exact location, will be one of only 30 Reform Jewish schools in the United States. The school plans to open initially for kindergarten and first grade, then hopes to expand to include more grades in the coming years. All seven Reform congregations in the St. Louis area have parents who want their children enrolled. The school will seek out an equal mix of students from both genders, welcome students who may only have one Jewish parent, and emphasize social activism in the curriculum.
