A public hearing is set for Monday night before the Buxton Planning Board on an application to establish a Buddhist temple on a quiet rural road in the southern Maine town. Members of the region's Cambodian community want to set up the temple in a single-family house and attached commercial building they bought two years ago.

The hearing is expected to draw Buddhist monks in traditional orange robes, along with residents concerned about how the temple would fit into the rural setting.

Specific issues are traffic and parking. Neighbors have complained that as many as 70 cars have been parked on the lawn and along the road during large holiday celebrations.
