On May 27, 2004 The Guardian reported, "The Prince of Wales was meeting the Dalai Lama at a St James's Palace reception. Charles has invited the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader to join him at the royal residence in London with members of the Tibetan community who live in Britain. The Prince is known to be an admirer of the Dalai Lama and has met him twice before. A Clarence House spokeswoman said: 'For many years he has been concerned about the situation of the people of Tibet and has been impressed by the Dalai Lama's efforts to seek a peaceful resolution.' The Office of Tibet described the event as 'very much appreciated' and 'very encouraging.' Prime Minister Tony Blair will not meet the Dalai Lama because of 'diary pressures,' despite being urged to do so by the Tibet Society. The leader's visit to the UK comes just two weeks after that of Chinese premier Wen Jiabao."
