On March 13, 2000, The Boston Herald published an article on the reactions of greater Boston Catholics to Pope John Paul II's apology. Richard Buttermore, of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Carver, MA, stated: "I'm impressed with the pope as we are taught as Catholics to recognize our shortcomings...The pope is saying Catholics are human and he is setting an example we should follow." Rev. Richard Ganung, Protestant chaplain at Milton Academy, was on hand at Holy Cross Cathedral to see his 15-year-old daughter, Elisabeth, convert to Catholicism. Ganung stated that the apology "is not too little too late. It will bring reconciliation and healing" among different faiths. "But I don't think we can hold today's people responsible for our father's sins...But it's a good start." Cardinal Bernard Law also issued an apology on March 11th, following the lead of Pope John Paul II.
