On September 18, 2004 Chico Enterprise Record reported, "Pagans gathered at Butte College Friday to help dispel myths about the belief system and draw members of the pagan community together. The festive gathering of dance, music and speakers was in celebration of the Pagan Pride Project. Similar events take place in 134 other areas during the harvest season, Aug. 29 to Oct. 6, including 44 U.S. states, six provinces in Canada and seven other countries. This was the first year that pagans in Butte County took part. At the core of the event is a food drive. Miranda Van Gellekom, who is a member of several pagan groups locally, said that traditionally at harvest time families joined together for a thanksgiving. But they also thought of those not as fortunate and shared food with others. This tradition continues today in the form of the food drive."
