On March 18, 2005 The Muskegon Chronicle reported, "Olive Township officials have approved plans for a 4,500-square-foot Buddhist temple, but they want a $40,000 letter of credit as a guarantee the project will be completed. The Olive Township Board unanimously approved the Lao Buddhist Temple's plans Thursday for the building on 10 acres at the southeast corner of Van Buren Street and 112th Avenue. The board approved similar plans for the project in February 2001, but construction had been held up because the temple didn't have enough money to build. Because of the lack of progress the first time around, board members were reluctant to grant approval without some type of guarantee."
