NYPD to Increase Security at Synagogues as Passover Approaches

On March 30, 2004 the New York Post reported, "The NYPD will beef up its counter-terrorism efforts for Passover next week, giving special attention to synagogues and other sensitive locations, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday. 'This is a very sensitive time for the city and the Jewish communities. In addition to the normal security precautions we take during the Passover holiday, we're stepping up our counter-terrorism posture throughout the city,' Kelly said. Mayor Bloomberg, who appeared with Kelly at a press conference, said, 'It's this time of the year when we heighten our efforts'...Kelly said the NYPD's anti-terrorist teams have been visiting major synagogues in Midtown to assess their security."
